As a native Michigander, I graduated from Bullock Creek High School in Midland, and then from Grand Valley State University in Allendale before moving out of state to embark on the journey to begin my medical career. I attended medical school in Norfolk, Virginia at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Then, having commissioned in the Navy, I completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center San Diego before transferring to my first station in the Family Medicine Department at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. There, my husband, Jacob, and I welcomed twins. My next duty station as the Medical Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion THREE took us to Port Hueneme, California and included deployments to Afghanistan and to Europe and Africa.
After separation from active duty, I trained as the Administrative Fellow for Quality and Patient Safety at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware. During this time, I sat for the national boards and earned a Certification in Medical Quality from the American Board of Medical Quality. Residency training then followed in the combined Med-Peds Residency Program at Christiana Care Health System, Newark, DE and Nemours AI DuPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE through Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA.
Currently, I am in midst of fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York. My early research has been focused on describing the anticipated impact of congenital heart disease on blood levels of N-terminal prohormone brain natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) as a pediatric biomarker for heart failure. I am excited to see where this journey will continue to lead.
Thank you to all of the patients who have entrusted me with their care as well as my family, friends, and mentors for your support of my career and future aspirations.
